The Horrors’ “Sleepwalk”

Here's my driving-to-work pick of the morning … "Sleepwalk" by English rock outfit The Horrors.  These guys are rock at their core, but they also have a melodic streak of psychedelia, a little bit of punk, some shoegaze, and a touch of dreaminess.  This one's from the 2013 album "Luminous," and its deliberate slow-strutting swagger …

Preoccupations’ “Doubt”

"Doubt" reminds me of what alternative rock used to sound like.  Back in the late '80s-early '90s, alternative music was often darker and dirge-ier in nature, somewhat gothic and rougher around the edges.  With this track from their 2018 album "New Material," Canadian artists Preoccupations seem to be channeling those lost sounds from the past.  …

Interpol @ the Hollywood Bowl – 10.04.18
