Big Electric Playlist, May 2019

I’ve finally found some free time and energy, so I’ve got the May edition of the Big Electric Playlist ready to go. Admittedly, it’s not the grand return to form I was hoping for – at least, compared to some earlier editions. But surprisingly, there’s a lot more material than I would’ve guessed, considering I fell off the map for half of May, consequently not hitting the blog with the consistency I would’ve liked.

This one caps out at 4.5 hours, with a couple of featured concerts from Tamaryn and The Chromatics, a hodge-podge of selections from the Just Like Heaven fest, and a few odds and ends, mostly electronic, that amounted to my one-off recommendations. There’s tracks from veteran house/trance act Orbital, the Caribou spinoff Daphni, the elegant world stylings of Four Tet, and a funky melodic tech-house number from the female duo Eli & Fur. Plus a plethora of alternative and indie offerings from the early to mid-00s, like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Rapture, The Faint, Beach House, and Phoenix.

As I rattle off all those names, I’m realizing that this playlist actually ain’t too shabby. I think I just had a grander vision, with a few additional shows and singles that I planned to include, if not for the extended work hours and subsequent burn-out. But since I’ve got a bit of free time coming up, I’m hoping to find the energy and inspiration to play catch up, and tackle some of these stragglers. So stay tuned.

In the meantime, here’s the better than expected May edition of the Big Electric Playlist. Enjoy in whatever manner suits you!
