Halloween Night with Gorgon City @ the Novo

I love seeing shows on Halloween Night, especially the electronic acts.  It’s always a total freakshow.  The energy’s dialed-up to eleven.  And everyone’s just a little nuttier than usual … but, of course, in the best possible way.

This Halloween exceeded all expectations, bringing U.K. house legends Gorgon City to the Novo Theatre in Los Angeles, as well as a crazed costume clad crowd of enthusiastic fans.  We had sexy nuns.  The pope.  Cat people.  A posse of cowboys and cowgirls.  Demons and devils (of which I was one).  And a giant inflatable Big Baby, which everyone mistook for a sumo wrestler.  An honest mistake.

Gorgon City were also in top form, playing for a solid hour and forty, with a selection of old hits, as well as tracks from their latest LP “Escape.”  These guys really know how to deliver house music in a live setting, starting with a full band, comprised of core duo Kyle “Foamo” Gibbon and Matt “RackNRuin” Robson-Scott (who were dressed as deranged surgeons), two outstanding vocalists, Chenai and Josh Barry, and a live drummer, who’s name escapes me.

And keeping in true DJ tradition, most of the set was performed continuously, never losing momentum, swapping vocalists seamlessly, and keeping the crowd on their costumed feet well into the witching hour.

Below is a selection of tracks, classic and new, served up by Gorgon City this All Hallows Eve.  Enjoy!
