I’ve been a fan of U.K. psychedelic rock act Spiritualized since their first album “Lazer Guided Melodies” came out in 1992. That album was a revelation. The entire album flowed continuously from one song to the next, residing in peaceful melodic lulls that built progressively into insanely complex rhythms of overwhelming euphoric sound. It was a journey. And seeing it live was akin to a spiritual experience (no pun intended).
Frontman Jason Pierce is still on that journey, integrating gospel, blues, and even a little country into the psychedelic experience. His latest album “And Nothing Hurt” is a shining example of this. And it was performed in its entirety at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles a few weeks ago.
As an aside, I’ve been meaning to post this sooner. But other life priorities unfortunately took precedent. And I wanted to get all that Desert Daze coverage up as well. Coincidentally, Spiritualized performed at that renown SoCal festival last year as one of the headliners.
Here’s a selection of old and new material that Spiritualized brought to the Orpheum. Hope you enjoy it.
