Siouxsie and the Banshees’ “Dear Prudence”

We’re going way back to 1984 for Siouxsie and the Banshee’s cover of the Beatles’ classic “Dear Prudence.”  When I think of the ’80s, songs like this one are my immediate go-to’s.  Sure, it’s a cover.  And for any Beatles fan, it’s probably tantamount to sacrilege.  Especially, when it was done by a British fringe (at the time) goth-rock and post-punk alternative band.

Well, in hindsight, Siouxsie’s version of “Dear Prudence” actually sounds pretty darn good.  It’s appropriately psychedelic, curiously darker, and still uniquely Siouxsie.  This isn’t my favorite song they’ve done – that would be “Dazzle” or “Song from the Edge of the World” – but I still love it.  And it’s a great introduction for anyone unfamiliar with their work.
