Simple Minds’ War Babies (Bascombe Mix)

You might remember these Scots for their mid-’80s “Breakfast Club” anthem “Don’t You (Forget About Me).” But Simple Minds have been making music ever since, as well as long before.  I think the first song I ever heard from them was their more alternative ’80s anthem “Waterfront.” Which brings me to today …

In all honesty, I’m not super-familiar with the last decade of Simple Minds’ material.  But a new album and tour (they’re playing the Orpheum in L.A. next Weds.) stirred up the old curiosity.  What have these guys been up to?

That’s when I stumbled upon the single “War Babies,” and in particular, this remix, dubbed the “Bascombe Mix.”  It’s kinda like comfort food.  It’s not necessarily innovative.  Nor is it dull or derivative.  It’s catchy semi-alternative pop-infused rock, that’s easily listenable and immediately likeable.  I guess you could say it’s Simple Minds in the second decade of the new millennium.
